University of California at Berkeley Department of Electrical Engineering & Computer Science Instructional & Electronics Support Group /share/b/docs/README Mar 07, 2003 New User Guide on the Horizon ----------------------------- No details as of yet, but hopefully the new guide will be available by the summer of 2003. The old guide will be split into two and will be updated. LaTeX Version (Old version) --------------------------- The "EECS Instructional User's Guide" was originally composed by Sharon Taylor in 1994, based upon the User's Guide we obtained from Iowa State University. To format the manual: latex Master.file To format the index: makeindex Master.idx To display the output: xdvi Master.dvi To convert to postscript: dvips -r -o Master.ps Master.dvi To print: lp -Plw274 Master.ps or Simply cd into original and type 'gmake' Now that it has been converted to HTML, I expect that we will not maintain the LaTeX version anymore. HTML Version (Old version) -------------------------- In October 1997, I (kevinm) converted it to HMTL using the command: # cd /home/util/inst/Inst.Users.Guide # set root = 'root@cory.eecs.berkeley.edu' # foreach f ( *tex ) ? /usr/sww/bin/latex2html \ -split 8 \ -link 8 \ -info '' \ -top_navigation \ -index_in_navigation \ -contents_in_navigation \ -next_page_in_navigation \ -previous_page_in_navigation \ -t "EECS Instructional User's Guide" \ -address "$root" \ -dir /share/b/Inst.Users.Guide/html/html-bak2/$f:r $f ? end Then I editted a LOT, adding a Table of Contents page and a document header to each page. I renamed the files created by latex2html to "index.html". I corrected the links and cleaned up the appearance of each page.
