College of Engineering Department of Electrical Engineering & Computer Sciences Instructional Support Group /share/b/pub/cardkey.help Aug 23 2019 Cardkey Access to EECS Instructional Computer Labs -------------------------------------------------- CONTENTS Obtaining Authorization What the cardkeys are for Access times and doors Rules of usage Which labs for your class UC Extension & Concurrent Enrollment students Reporting problems Locating your CAL1 "prox" cardkey number Obtaining Authorization ----------------------- Cardkeys are automically requested on your behalf, based on the classes you are taking during the semester. Cardkey requests are proccessed once a week by the UCPD. All students taking EECS classes with scheduled labs in Cory and Soda are eligible for after-hours cardkey access to 105 and 199 Cory, 271, 273, 275, 277, and 330 Soda. Additional access to certain EE labs in Cory is granted based on classes scheduled in those labs. To see what doors are enabled for you this semester, please login to http://inst.eecs.berkeley.edu/webacct select "List User's Accounts & Cardkey" If you believe your cardkey access is denied due to an error, please contact keys@eecs.berkeley.edu, or visit the 387 Soda Front Desk Access will be updated periodically during the semester to adjust to adds and drops in enrollments. The Instructional labs are listed in http://inst.eecs.berkeley.edu/~inst/iesglabs.html What the cardkeys are for ------------------------- Most of the labs require access by cardkey on evenings and weekends (as do the Cory and Soda Hall entrances). The Instructional labs are provided for students to complete coursework, so access is linked to your current enrollment in an EECS course. Students are granted access to specific labs for the classes they are in. Access times and doors ---------------------- - The Instructional workstation labs in Cory and Soda Halls are usually unlocked from 7am-6:30pm on weekdays when classes are in session. - The electronics labs will always require a cardkey. - Access to the buildings and to individual labs will require a cardkey after 6:30pm and on weekends, and holidays. To enter Soda Hall after hours, these external doors can be used: 1) Soda west entrance (across from Etcheverry Hall, at the 3rd floor) 2) Soda east stairwell entrance (on Leroy Ave, at the 4th floor). Get to the second floor of Soda using the east stairwell or the elevator. The elevators in Soda Hall have cardkey readers that are activated on evenings, weekends and holidays. All Soda-resident faculty, staff, and graduate students should be able to get to the all floors in Soda. Other students in EECS classes will have access only to the 2nd and 3rd floors. To enter Cory Hall after hours, these external doors can be used: 1) Cory north entrances (along Hearst Ave, to the 3rd floor) 2) Cory southwest entrance (near Davis Hall, to the 1st floor elevator) Rules of usage -------------- You should never allow another person to enter the building or a lab using your cardkey. This is an offense for which your cardkey access privileges could be revoked. We require this level of security because there have been actual bombings in Cory Hall, and our insurance requires it as well. Please help us: take this seriously. Which labs for your class ------------------------- The EECS Instructional general-access drop-in labs are available 24 hours a day with a cardkey. These labs include UNIX and Windows work- stations in 105, 199 Cory and 271, 273, 275, 277, 330 Soda. The lab access for each class varies from one semester to the next; your instructor will inform you of any special labs for which you'll have access. You can find current cardkey eligibility at: http://inst.eecs.berkeley.edu/webacct UC Extension & Concurrent Enrollment students --------------------------------------------- After their enrollment in the concurrent enrollment program has been completed, and after the start of the term, concurrent students can obtain a CAL1 Card at the CAL1 Card Office (180 Cesar Chavez Center). Bring your student id number as issued by UC Extension and a valid government-issued photo id. For more information, please see * https://extension.berkeley.edu/static/studentservices/concurrent * https://cal1card.berkeley.edu/ * the instructions you were sent after registering at UC Extension * ask concurrent@berkeley.edu CAL1 cards are also cardkeys that may be approved for access to labs used by your courses. Once you have a cardkey, it can be approved for the EECS labs in one of two ways: 1) Ask your instructor or TA to notify the IT staff that you are in the class. They can send this information to inst@eecs.berkeley.edu: student's name, UCEX/CalNet ID number, cardkey number, which course Your cardkey access will be updated for the labs within a week. This will also authorize you to get a computer account for the class from http://inst.eecs.berkeley.edu/webacct. 2) If you are advised to do so, submit the form at http://goo.gl/71hlZY. Reporting problems ------------------ Most students' cardkeys (aka CAL1 cards) are activated automatically during the first 3 weeks of the semester for the EECS labs that they need for their classes. If you are enrolled via CalCentral, and other students in your class have access to a lab but you don't, then you should bring your CAL1 card to the CS Front Office in 387 Soda (weekdays 8am-noon, 1pm-4pm). They can verify which labs you should have and update the cardkey database if needed. For information about the cardkeys: http://inst.eecs.berkeley.edu/cgi-bin/pub.cgi?file=cardkey.help http://inst.eecs.berkeley.edu/cgi-bin/pub.cgi?file=calnet.help For information about the lab rooms and schedules: http://inst.eecs.berkeley.edu/~inst/iesglabs.html http://inst.eecs.berkeley.edu/~inst/lab-schedules This is only about getting access to EECS instructional labs. For help with other problems about your SID card, please visit the CAL1 Card Office (http://services.housing.berkeley.edu/c1c/static/index.htm). Locating your CAL1 "prox" cardkey number ---------------------------------------- Your CAL1 student id card is also a cardkey for campus doors if you are authorized. Each card has a unique cardkey number, which is also called a "prox" number. The number is printed on the lower right corner on the back of the CAL1 card (http://inst.eecs.berkeley.edu/pub/png/CAL1-card.png).
