Its purpose is to close the gap between an idea for an algorithm and a circuit implementation of that algorithm. Accepting a high level functional description of a system, Midas frees the designer from circuit details and yet provides the flexibility to include as many circuit limitations as desired. Midas provides two interfaces: an input file and compiled modules. The input files contain information about the configuration, parameters and analyses to be performed on the model. The compiled modules can incorperate code and libraries that also define models. Midas deals with three entities: models, pins, and signals. Models are connected throught their pins to the signals. A list of models forms a netlist, and a simulation consists of multiple passes through a netlist. Midas on the Instructional Computers ------------------------------------ Midas is installed in /share/b/midas/ on the EECS Instructional systems. It works on computers running HP-UX, DEC ULTRIX and DEC UNIX. It can be run with the command "/share/b/bin/midas". The manual, in Postscript, is available in /share/b/midas/manuals.ps and can be displayed on an XWindows system using the UNIX command /usr/sww/bin/ghostview /share/b/midas/manuals.ps Source for Midas is available from ftp://kowloon.eecs/pub/midas.
