We have been negotiating with the Columbia Innovation Enterprise unit at Columbia University about the usage agreement since March 1999. We cannot predict when or if this will be resolved. In Sep 1999, we received a letter from Columbia Innovation Enterprise stating that X-CAP is not Y2K compliant and may not be corrected. They say "It is expected that, after Dec 31, 1999, X-CAP will become non-operable." ********************************************************************** SWITCAP2 is a general simulation program for analyzing linear switched- capacitator networks and mixed switch-capacitator/digital networks. XCAP is a graphical user interface for the SWITCAP program. SWITCAP2 and XCAP were written at Columbia University. On the EECS Instructional systems, SWITCAP2 and XCAP are installed on parker.eecs and the HP workstations in 117 and 199 Cory. To run them, you should first enter these commands: set path = ( $path /share/f/columbia/sw/bin ); rehash setenv SW2LICDIR /share/f/columbia/sw/ source /share/f/columbia/xcap/._prepare_xsw These can be added to your .cshrc file. Type "sw" to start SWITCAP2. There are sample input files under the subdirectory: /share/f/columbia/sw/tst Type "xcap" to start XCAP. You will need to be running X Windows where you are sitting; please read /share/b/pub/XWindows.help for information about using X Windows on the EECS Instructional systems. You may wish to copy the ._prepare_xsw file to your own directory and modify these environment variables: variable directory location for ----------- ----------------------------------- XSCIRCUITS your circuit designs XSSUBCIRCUITS your subcircuit designs XCCSCRATCH your temporary files XSINPUTFILES standard SWITCAP input files XSOUTPUFILES standard SWITCAP output files See /share/f/columbia/xcap/XCap for more information about this. Note that the directory names must be typed with a trailing "/" character. For example, if you have created a "circuits" subdirectory in your home directory for your input files, you could change the XSCIRCUITS variable to: setenv XSCIRCUITS /$HOME/circuits/ Documentation ------------- Manuals are available from your TAs. A copy of the manual has been placed in 199 Cory for use in that lab. There is an on-line manual that is 84-pages long. Please DO NOT PRINT this on any Instructional printers. You can browse it on-line using the commands: ghostview /share/b/pub/Postscript/sw2.ps (on EECS Instructional workstations only) http://inst.eecs.berkeley.edu/cgi-bin/pub.cgi?file=ps/sw2.ps (from any WWW browser) Installation Notes ------------------ 03/24/95: As distributed, "xcap" on HP-UX 9.01 complained: /lib/dld.sl: Can't open shared library: /usr/lib/libX11.sl /lib/dld.sl: No such file or directory To fix that, we ran: chatr +s enable xcap to enable the binary to use the SHLIB_PATH environment variable to locate shared libraries. Users will need to run: setenv SHLIB_PATH /usr/lib:/usr/lib/X11R5:/usr/lib/Motif1.2 Author ------ (EECS INstructional users should send any questions or bug reports to "inst@eecs.berkeley.edu", not directly to the author please.)
