They generally do well enough to let you read the text of a file, if not the whole file. Programs Installed on the Instructional Solaris x86 Machines ------------------------------------------------------------ wvWare is currently installed only on the Instructional Solaris x86 workstations. It is free software, however, so we can implement it elsewhere as need dictates. The following programs are installed on the Solaris x86 workstations: wvConvert converts Word documents to Abiword XML wvHtml converts Word documents to HTML wvSimpleCLX determines if Word documents are fast-save or full-save wvSummary prints summary info for OLE documents wvText grabs main document text from Word documents wvVersion prints version of Word which created a Word document wv-incconfig (configuration program, not normally run by the user) wv-libconfig (configuration program, not normally run by the user) Using wvWare to Read Microsoft Word Documents --------------------------------------------- To convert the file: % wvHtml filename.doc > filename.html Then use filefox to read it; you can either move it into your public_html directory and read it off your web page or just type % firefox filename.html For More Information -------------------- For help with wvWare programs on the Instructional Unix cluster, please send mail to inst@eecs.berkeley.edu.
