About the Exam

The midterm will be held on Tuesday, October 25th from 5pm to 8pm in 155 Dwinelle (A-L) and 2050 VLSB (M-Z). The first initial of your last name determines your room assignment.

Any course material covered in lecture through Tuesday, October 18th, may be examined (see below for details).

The midterm will be closed notes, books, laptops, and people. However, you may use a one-page (two-sided) cheat sheet of your own design (group design ok but not recommended).

You may also use a basic, non-programmable calculator, which is not required, but which may be helpful and is recommended. (No TI-86's, iPhones, etc.)

Practice Exams

Note that in previous years, topics were covered in varying orders, and so the midterm topics do not align perfectly.

You can also look at much older exams from other versions of the class, but be aware that the syllabus has changed over time.

Review Sessions and Office Hours

General review: Prof Klein will hold a "list of topics" style overview session during the usual lecture slot on Thursday 10/20. It will be webcast as usual.

Topical review: Office hours in the week before the exam will generally be devoted to specific topics. The list below represents this week's OH schedule and replaces the standard schedule from 10/18 through 10/26.

Possible Midterm Topics

Note: exam questions will in many cases ask you to extend or combine basic ideas and algorithms from class. Make sure you understand the fundamentals in addition to being able to procedurally execute algorithms. The exam will not test your knowledge of Python, however questions may assume familiarity with the projects (see past exams for examples).
