Volunteer Opportunities

• BORP : Contact Laurie Gray. Please let her know if you are disabled. (510) 843-4398  Coordinates outings for people with a variety of disabilities. You will help with the actual outing experience.
• Integrated Arts : Contact Zach Pine zpine@integratedarts.org  Provides a studio in which people with disabilities and without disabilities can do art in an integrated setting. You should be willing to get involved in making art and may also provide some help to people with disabilities. A variety of disabilities are represented, but there are a significant number of people with cognitive disabilities in particular.
• CALSTAR . (510) 643 8031 calstar@uclink4.berkeley.edu  Provides support for people with disabilities to use Cal's recreational facilities. You will participate in a Yoga and stretching class, following the instructor's suggestions for how to help those with disabilities.
• Through the Looking Glass : Contact Rhoda Olken (925) 939 1332, (510) 848 1112 x 109 (Thursdays)  Works with families that have members with disabilities. You will assist Rhoda in entering data she has gathered about the experiences of parents with cognitive disabilities. 
• Special Needs Aquatic Program : Contact Dori Maxon (510) 527 0446 x3. This opportunity requires a semester-long commitment. You will need to go to a 1 hour training session, and then show up for 1hr/week of swimming. No one is required to do SNAP as the commitement is larger than the class requirement.

Please give people at least one week notice about your participation in their volunteer program. Let me and them both know as soon as possible if you will have to cancel. Let me know what you sign up for as well. 

When you have completed your assignment, fill out the following questions and e-mail them to Hesham and myself:

• What  volunteer work did you do?
• Would you recommend that we keep that volunteer opportunity on the list in future years?
• Would you recommend that we keep the volunteer work requirement in future years?
  
• Did your experience meet your expectations? What was the same or different than you expected?
