CS370 Fall 18

Instructors

Christopher Hunn
cthunn@eecs.berkeley.edu

Hi! For the past five years — and until recently — I was in charge of the L&S CS major while advising our CS students. I first became officially involved with CS 370 two years ago when I became the official instructor as the new Director of Undergraduate Instruction. Though I've only been a lecturer for a few years, I've held many roles at Cal: undergrad & grad student, GSI, researcher, staff, and lecturer. While I took CS coursework as an undergrad here, my grad work and training has been heavily focused on STEM teaching and educational equity. Prior to working at Cal, I taught AP / IB biology, physiology, and biotech. This led to running a STEM-focused California Partnership Academy. Now I’m excited to improve our undergraduates' educational experience by supporting, teaching, and evaluating our future TA's — such as yourself!

Bryan Tong
btong@berkeley.edu

Hiya, I’m Bryan, the newest co-instructor and a senior studying CS + CogSci. I grew up nearby in the East Bay (Pleasanton), where I’ll likely be hiding on weekends and hammering away on CS projects. Professionally, I’ve been on course staff for CS 370, CS 61A, and CS 61C. Aside from that, I run Virtual Reality @ Berkeley and lately advise directors in the ASUC on diversity and atmosphere in E&T. Fun fact: I’m a recovering boba addict, though one of my dreams is to run a boba cafe. Feel free to chat with me about: non-Vim-related CS, lifting, cooking, PlayStation games, and dogs.

Teaching Interns

Asli Akalin
asliakalin@berkeley.edu

Hi I am Asli! I am a junior studying computer science and economics. I am very excited to be a part of CS 370 this semester (not as much as you should be though). Other than CS 370, I have been teaching CS 70, CS 61A and this semester I’ll be a reader for CS 170 so hopefully I will see you around. Talk to me about food places, languages, TV shows, chess, and of course teaching and classes. I look forward to meeting you all!

Cesar Plascencia Zuniga
cesar.pz@berkeley.edu

Hello! My name is Cesar and I am a sophomore from Santa Barbara, CA. I am incredibly passionate about movies just like millions of other people, but my favorites are There Will Be Blood, Drive, Forrest Gump, and Fantastic Mr. Fox. I am a huge advocate of drinking plenty of water and thanking the bus driver. I took CS 370 last semester and absolutely loved helping students with the fundamentals in CS 61A. I was also an academic intern so I helped out with office hours and labs. I came to Berkeley without any real experience in computer science, but when I took CS 61A I found so much encouragement and support from my GSI's and tutors (like Sequoia!) that I knew I wanted to be a part of the community here. Feel free to ask me any questions about anything or simply say hi. I can’t wait to meet y'all.

Griffin Prechter
griffinprechter@berkeley.edu

Hi, I'm Griffin, a junior from Los Angeles, CA! Teaching is a passion of mine, and I'm very excited to share it with you! I took CS 370 one year ago, and it helped make me the teacher I am today. Since then I've become a TA for CS 61A and joined CS Mentors. Now I'm thrilled to be involved with CS 370 again. In my spare time I like learning new things, cooking, baking, Shiba Inus, and maximizing gains. I'm looking forward to meeting and working with you all!

Jade Singh
jadesingh17@berkeley.edu

Hi, I’m Jade, a sophomore intending computer science. (Wish me luck in CS 70 this semester!) I’m from Ellicott City, Maryland, born and raised on the East Coast. In addition to CS, I love swimming, Game of Thrones, food, and music, which I’m also minoring in. I really got into teaching last spring, when I took CS 370 in hopes of learning how to become a better teacher and pursue my goal of TA-ing for CS 61A. CS 370 is one of the best experiences I've had so far at Berkeley because it taught me a lot about teaching, and helped me find a community of people as passionate about teaching and helping others as I am. CS 370 gave me experience tutoring a variety of students of all skill levels and I learned so much from it. I'm so excited to work with all of you this semester, and welcome you into the Berkeley CS teaching community!

Jessica Lee
jessxlee@berkeley.edu

Hello! I'm a second-year from the South Bay studying CS. Some of my skills include eating too much lychee until I get a nosebleed, drooling on my keyboard after falling asleep coding, and somehow managing to eat Imm Thai every day for two months. In my free time, I like to dance, read, and weight lift. Teaching has perhaps been one of the most fulfilling things I've done at Cal, so I'm excited to be able to share this experience with all of you.

Omotara Oloye
omotara.oloye@berkeley.edu

Hello, my name is Omotara and I am a sophomore from San Leandro, CA! I’m currently intended Computer Science with a minor in Music (If music be the food of love, play on). I’m interested in the intersection of art and technology, computer graphics, and animation. In my free time, I love to play volleyball, cook, read, and have little trust in people who don’t use the “Oxford Comma”. I took CS 370 last semester, and fell in love with how teaching is more than just the curriculum. I’m in charge of running the CS Scholars 61A seminar, so if you’re interested in tailoring lesson plans to newly-experienced programmers, feel free to reach out!

Rina Lu
rinaq@berkeley.edu

Hi I'm Rina, currently a sophomore at UC Berkeley! I'm from Boston, MA, and I love everything from music to philosophy to computer science. Right now I am still undeclared, but I am leaning towards a double major in CS and English. I took CS 370 last semester and tutored for CS 61A. CS 61A was actually my first CS class ever! I also virtually advise high-achieving low income high school students to help them get into top colleges, and I'm part of UC Berkeley's student programming board. Feel free to reach out to me about anything, whether you need advice on teaching or just want to talk!
