Photography Class
- Freshman Seminar Experience:
-Active Learning
-Participation a must -
unstructured and unconventional so can discuss and learn about topic of
our interests (discuss what to learn about during lunch - Food For Thought)
-Flexible curriculum, No exam, few restrictions
-"WHAT" not important for subject matter but "HOW"
-Constructive, positive criticism of each other's photos "Crit" (art school
term) indicating evaluation of your work to improve skill (perhaps say "and you could.."
instead of "but you should...")
-need to buy own paper and film, can collaborate on buying to save money, Charge for
darkroom ($60/semester) in Wurster Hall (Architecture Dept.)
-Watch e-mail closely for last mintue up-dates and important info
-Computer accounts for computer available in computer Lab in 199 Cory Hall (Photoshop
program available there - ask Nathan for technical help)


Photo Topics of intrest discussed Friday:
-Focal Length
-Darkroom work
-Depth of Field
-Different time Exposures/Time Lapse
-Shutter speed
-Medium Format
-Holga camera
-Film Speed: ISO/ASA/ANSI/DIN - # of film (i.e. 100-400) determines
sensitivity to light. Higher number means more sensitive, absorbs more
light, provides less grainy/noisy appearance. For example, on a sunny day, film speed of 100 would be recommended.
