Q: Where did you grow up? What was your path to Cal? A: I grew up in San Jose, CA, and have lived there my entire life before coming to Berkeley. Despite being the center of Silicon Valley, San Jose is actually a very boring city, which is why I was excited to attend Cal. I am currently studying Bioengineering, focusing on computational biology. Q: How much programming have you done (and what languages)? A: In high school, I taught myself some C, but I didn't get far. That was pretty much the extent of my programming skills before taking CS 61A. Now I can program in Python, but that's about it. (Luckily, no previous experience in programming is necessary for doing well in CS 61A!) Q: What are your hobbies? What are some of your talents and skills? A: I'm like a sponge for information, albeit a very selective one. I love reading the news, random Wikipedia articles, books, meme histories, etc. You'd think that it would be great for college, but I can never get into textbooks and assigned readings, so no. I enjoy learning about the most useless information, such as the meaning of a Diamond Jubilee. (It's usually a celebration for a 75th anniversary, but in the case of monarchs, it's the 60th anniversary. Queen Elizabeth II celebrated her Diamond Jubilee this year. (This is only the second occurence in UK's history.) -- from Wikipedia) I also enjoy skiing and snowboarding; they're awesome. I can play the piano, but mine's getting dusty. :o Q: Have you done anything remarkable? Has anything memorable happened to you? A: I'm a remarkably unremarkable guy. However, when I was young (10 years old?), I went hiking up in the hills with my family. I was running down a hill, when I suddenly tripped. I noticed a large pile of horse s*** in my trajectory, but it's hard to change directions midway through flight. Needless to say, I landed right on it, and I walked back home with crap on me. It was great. Q: What commitments will be consuming your cycles this summer? A: In addition to being a reader, I will be taking Physics 7B and CS 61BL this summer. I will also be learning how to cook--hopefully.
