PROGRAMMING ASSIGNMENT 1 (due on

Logistics
· The assignment is expected to be done in groups of 3. More than 3 people are not allowed in a group. The group members are expected to share the workload equally.
·
Please email the
names of the group members to marghoob@eecs.
·
Assignments will
be evaluated by TAs.
1.
Evaluation will
consist of a demo and a viva, each with 50% weightage.
2.
Code will be
checked for working condition and good programming practices (e.g. Commenting,
error checking)
3.
Individual
members of the team will be asked questions related to the assignment.
4.
Common marks will
be allotted for the demo portion but viva questions will carry individual
points.

Dates and time
slots for the demo/viva will be posted close to the due date. So, keep checking
the announcements on the main site for updates.
Resources
·
All must have an
instructional class account at this point in time. If not, please contact the
TAs immediately.
·
Preferably, use
the instructional accounts for this assignment. No failed demos on account of
software or hardware incompatibility reasons will be accepted.
·
javac, java,
appletviewer should be accessible from your account. more info about java
2 sdk can be found at https://iris.eecs.berkeley.edu/idsg/sww/software/java.
Information
·
If you wish to
use the department smtp server which is imail.eecs.berkeley.edu, then you need
to run your mail client on one of the instructional machines. Access from a
non-instructional machine seems to require authentication!
Process for Submission
· Keep all the project files involved under a single
directory named “GroupXX” where the XX stand for your group number (to be
announced shortly).
· Use “tar cvf
GroupXX.tar GroupXX/” to get the GroupXX.tar
file.
· Mail ONLY
the file GroupXX.tar to BOTH
the following email addresses with
the subject line as “PROJ 1 SUBMISSION.”

· NO mails to the TAs personal accounts will be
encouraged. These will be deleted immediately.
· Submissions have to be made before Thursday (February
9) night 11.59pm. Late submissions will face a penalty of 50% of the grade.
