2 | Aug 20, 2009 7:40 AM | I came to Berkeley, because I knew who I wanted to work with. But just based on the visit day, I would not have come to Berkeley. I thought that the Berkeley visit day was poorly designed compared to the Stanford and MIT visit day. There was more interaction with students and professors, and better guidance about the decision to make from professors at the other schools. |

4 | Aug 25, 2009 10:01 PM | Visit day was fine overall; however, the method for getting travel expenses covered was unnecessarily complex compared to the other universities I visited. I wish that the EE faculty had been available for meetings on visit day as well. (I admit that I should have pre-arranged something, though, as that was likely not an issue for most students.) |
5 | Aug 25, 2009 11:38 PM | The grad student facilities (offices, building) look old and shabby compared to the other departments I visited (e.g., MIT and UW). Like -- chairs are old and usually visibly dirty and are not ergonomic at all. My first year office had wires coming out of the wall (which didn't look like it had been painted in years) and the carpet was dirty. It made me think that students were cared about less at UCB than at other places. |
