| Aug 20, 2009 5:19 AM | I'm a little confused with the lines between subjects, particularly graphics/HCI. |
| Aug 20, 2009 5:19 AM | examples would be good |
| Aug 20, 2009 5:22 AM | Like with the M.S. report, I can't tell whether the department takes this seriously -- i.e. will only approve a minor that actually has something to do with my thesis -- or whether the department does not take it seriously at all, and will approve basically anything. |
| Aug 20, 2009 5:23 AM | In terms of requirements, it's really frustrating that no theory courses that fulfill the breadth requirement are being offered this semester. |
| Aug 20, 2009 5:24 AM | Especially for outside minors, it is hard to find areas that I can take 2 classes in that match my research interests |
| Aug 20, 2009 5:41 AM | Comprehensive explanation webpage about requirements would be useful. Information is currently scattered and disorganized. |
| Aug 20, 2009 5:57 AM | It would be helpful to know about the pros and cons of the courses offered Departments (like Haas School, Statistics, Physics etc) from senior Grad students by means of an informal session. |
| Aug 20, 2009 6:00 AM | Specific examples of minors chosen by past students and courses used to fulfill them would be helpful. |
| Aug 20, 2009 4:54 PM | For example, the MOT program is not very clearly outlined. |
| Aug 20, 2009 10:18 PM | it's all guesswork until you hand in that blue(?) form and hope for the best ... |
| Aug 21, 2009 12:39 AM | I haven't seen a written account anywhere of what exactly an outside minor is, although it's presumably what you would expect. |
| Aug 25, 2009 9:10 PM | There should be a person we can contact before taking classes to quickly ask "Will this work?" |
| Aug 25, 2009 9:38 PM | The requirements are still a bit unclear to me and I have not received much guidance from my advisor on which courses to take. |
| Aug 25, 2009 9:41 PM | Examples would help. I am unclear if the majors and minors need to be all from the same department (eg a major from AI and a minor from Theory), or if it's more flexable then that |
| Aug 25, 2009 9:53 PM | When I found out about the outside minor requirement, I was totally bewildered as to what could be appropriate. I ended up picking an outside minor and taking a course for it essentially randomly, which doesn't seem like a good use of time in the program. However, in my case it ended up being useful, so I have no regrets about the choice. |
| Aug 25, 2009 10:38 PM | I have no idea whether to shoot to fill requirements, or whether it will just happen naturally. I don't even have a good sense of what constitutes a major. |
| Aug 25, 2009 10:45 PM | When I first heard of the outside minor requirement, I was totally bewildered as to what could be appropriate. I ended up choosing an outside minor and taking a course for it essentially randomly, which doesn't seem like a good use of time in the program. However, the course I took ended up being useful, so I have no regrets about the choice in retrospect. |
| Aug 25, 2009 11:43 PM | I'm confused on how related the outside minor has to be to my thesis. Like -- I want to do business/economics, but then that person has to sit on my quals committee? They won't be able to understand what I have to say (since it will be technical), so isn't that kind of pointless? |
| Aug 26, 2009 2:09 AM | I don't know how specific a minor needs to be, especially the outside |
