    Ferenc, Khossrov, Pathma, Kevin
  • Khossrov's and Pathma's experiences with Print Quota.
  • Kevin's WebAcct user database.
  • Any problems with ISG accts in ESG labs and vice versa.
  • We reviewed the programming logic of the ISG printer quota module:
    • EECS-printquota-design.pdf
    • It works within the LPRNG print spooler software.
    • Each printer should have only one spooler (can be set at the printer).
    • Each spooler can have one or more printers.
    • All spoolers should talk to the same database (can be mirrored).
    • It relies on the "before" and "after" page counts from the printers.
    • It is currently running on only one spooler (iprint.eecs, a UNIX system).
    • I would like it to work on any number of spoolers, including Windows.
    • Pathma has succeeded in running LPRNG and our printer module on Windows.
We discusssed the merits of using a commercial print quota manager for this in the future (support for various printers, the ability to count the pages in a print job before printing it). Khossrov likes Print Quota Manager, so after the meeting Kevin ordered a copy for further evaluation.

The ISG printer quota application requirements are:

    • It must accept print jobs from UNIX and Windows.
    • It must not require any special software on the client computers.
    • It must interact with our existing SQL database (because that database is integrated with the WebAcct site that allows students to purchase additional pages).
    • It must allow us to imbed our own SQL code that queries the user's quota and updates the database with the results, using stored procedures in the database.
We reviewed sample output ("EEUGRAD") from the WebAcct Administration site and verified that Khossrov and Ferenc have passwords to it.
