Bing Xia
Bing is a 4th year Applied Math/MCB Computer Science triple major. His
primary academic interest is computational biology and he hopes to pursue
graduate studies in this field after he graduates. His hobbies include
running, taekwondo, origami, computer games and piano.
Conor Hughes
Conor is a 3rd year EECS major. Conor's lived in the bay area for all of
his life and in the East Bay for all but one year. His favorite Language
is C. Bring him your C!
Courntey Wang
Courtney enjoys talking about himself in the third person and takes
advantage of every opportunity to do so! He is a third year student here
at Cal studying Applied Math and Computer Science. Outside of school and
the selfpace center, Courtney enjoys punting kittens, organizing his
massive Storm Trooper collection into various formations depending on his
mood and collecting ties. His favorite language to tutor is scheme, but
he prefers programming in Java or Python. Bring him anything though, he
isn't picky :-)
Daren Hasenkamp
Eric Chang
I was born in Seattle WA but I lived in Taiwan for all my childhood
years. I first started to program in high school and learned C++,
Java then C. I learned C on my own because there's this USACO
programming training Site that gives you assignments to code up, but
it must run under ONE SECOND. I am currently a sophomore and this if
my first time being a selfpace tutor-I will be willing to help you
with Java, Unix and C++. Enjoy your time at Selfpace center and don't
wait until the end to do everything and make us both miserable. Have
fun programming!
Eric Lin
The Eric Lin is a very rare species (of course there is only one). It can
usually be seen lurking around the Self Paced center grading or poking fun
at the random species that spend their time at SPC such as Thien or Eric
Chang. It is a friendly species that loves to help others learn the best
they can...unless of course ...you touch it's yummy Fredo...don't touch
the Fredo!
Ethan Rahn
Once upon a time there was this plucky young lad named Ethan who learned
Java. He took the AP test and saw that it was good, and learned scheme, C
C++ python bash and other languages. He slew the dragon on Compliler Hill
and defended Database Mountain against the evil warload Concurrency
Errors. He is rumored to also study the secret adn mystical arts of
Mathematics, but this is dismissed by many as wives tale.
Fernando Garcia Bermudez
I am an EECS grad student working in Robotics at the Biomimetic
Millisystems Lab under Prof Ron Fearing. I was born in Patchogue, NY and
raised in Buenos Aires, Argentina where my family is from. I have a BS in
Aerospace Engineering from Florida Tech. My interests outside of school
include hiking, watching movies from around the world, reading and writing
short stories, hand drumming, training karate and hanging out with friends
and my incredible wife whom I miss right this moment. I'll be able to
help you with C, C++ Matlab, Python and Unix.
Getty Ritter
Linguist, computer scientist, lucubrator (in every sense of the word)
he can be guaranteed to be telling the truth except in the following
situations, A: if the matter at hand is controversial B: the weather
happens to be remarkable at the time or C: Other
Himanshu Sharma
Kathy Bedrosian
Kevin Jorgensen
I am a second year Computer Science (L&S) and Math intended double major.
My favorite programming language is probably python (which I learned at
the selfpace center!) But I also know Scheme, self taught Java and
Objective-C. I'm currently working on a unit conversion application for
the iphone (hence the Objective C) and hope to have it ready for release
on the App store toward the end of the semester
Sriram Sankararaman
Thien Nguyen
Will Cole
Will Cole was born in the computer lab in Soda, so naturally he was raised
by wolves who happened to be passing through. When not tutoring for the
Self-Paced Center, he likes to spend his time thinking about tutoring at
the Self-Paced Center. Ultimately, in true Turing fashion, his dream is
to never achieve his dream.
Ye Yuan
Ye started to learn programming and English speaking at the same
age! Wow! Just to clarify, he started to speak English at Fall 08. He's
a second year Applied Math/CS double major with wide interests excluding
going to lectures (there's exceptions)> His current non academic interest
is to catch up with more slang so that he won't get scared when people say
"ride gun shot"
Manager Carol Marshall
Carol has been called the "duct tape that keeps the selfpace center
together" a title she is proud of! She loves meeting all the students and
staff each year and getting to know what the latest generation is all
about. When not on campus Carol is into theater, including working for
the California Shakespeare Theater, and also writing and directing shows
for local fringe festivals. She also enjoys cooking, nature hikes and
noting the often funny and bizarre Opera that is our day to day lives!
Front desk Co-Pilot Work-Study Ashley Sorgi
Ashley Sorgi is from Southern California. She is graduating in December
with a B.A. in Anthropology and Global Poverty and Practice. She enjoys
traveling, abstract art, Indian food, Beat Poetry and large cups of
coffee. If she had a dog it would be a tea cup Pomeranian named Whisky
Marx.
