This class is a subclass of direct-simple-stream. This class describes a
stream which writes from an octet buffer, in a similar manner to a
string-output-simple-stream, which
writes from a lisp string.
The options when creating an instance of this class are
buffer and external-format.
The buffer option can either be an octet buffer
(a vector with element type (unsigned-byte 8) or
(signed-byte 8)),
or nil. If it is nil, the stream acts like a counting bit-bucket; no
output is generated, and so no overflow can occur, but the
file-position of the stream can be queried at the end of the
