Arguments: &optional verify
Query the jLinker interface. If the interface is not running, the
result is nil. If the interface is running
and the argument is non-nil, send a
round-trip message to verify the connection. If the interface appears
to be malfunctioning, jlinker-end is called to shut down
the connection completely.
