Nagaganesh Jaladanki

Tu 6pm-7pm

Pedagogy style:

I structure my discussion sections around building intuition and a deeper understanding for the concepts. That often means weighing towards mini-lectures and student questions over getting through the entire worksheet every time. I also try to connect my discussions to real-world computing and strategies for exam prep. If you like refreshers of content before jumping into the discussion questions, my section is right for you!

Tu 11pm-12am

Pedagogy style:

I’ll encourage a discussion (in breakout rooms and then all together) that examines a question in detail “from start to finish”, covering all of the concepts involved clearly and completely, even at the expense of not reaching every single question. I have a background in math, and will likely show a bias toward covering theoretical underpinnings rather than practical applications.

Wed 11am-12pm

Pedagogy style:

I try to focus more on the more interesting concepts, and I tend to skip the boring discussion questions. A lot of theoretical CS is straightforward if presented with the right framework, so I often spend a fair bit of time at the beginning of each section developing that framework.

Wed 2pm-3pm

Pedagogy style:

I will prioritize giving ample time to practice applying concepts covered in lecture and to gain experience solving algorithmic problems, so I will place more emphasis on covering the majority of the worksheet and, time permitting, discussing further problems that showcase related techniques and approaches. Consequently, I will try to keep content review shorter and spend more time on the worksheet and problem solving techniques, while encouraging collaboration and discussion.

My teaching style is going to typically involve going over some of the material relevant to discussion sheets, and spending time discussing the sheet both in class and in break out rooms. I like my discussions to be very participation based and for students to interact with each other and with me! I encourage students to keep their cameras on and to ask me a lot of questions. Those of you who took CS70 or were on CS70 staff over the summer may already know me!

Th 2pm-3pm

Pedagogy style:

I’ll try to cater the bulk of my section for the students who fall somewhere in between “I’ve watched lecture, but don’t really understand what’s going on” and “I get the main idea, and want more problem-solving practice”. Because of this, my section will probably be most useful if you have at least passing familiarity with the material. Structure-wise, I will provide brief content review before using selected questions from the worksheet to discuss problem-solving techniques and mental models that will help you build intuition and tackle exam-level problems.

Pedagogy style:

I will probably structure my discussion similarly to what I did in the summer. The 10 minutes before berkeleytime, I minilecture which reviews the harder topics, key takeaways, misconceptions, summary, and my personal perspective on the material? (maybe not before depending on my time slot, otherwise it will just be at beginning of section). Other than that, the discussion time will be focused on doing the problems. I like to emphasize intuition and problem solving, and I will pick and choose the most important problems to do within the time limit. Quite flexible based off student feedback.
