CS 184 Assignment 0 : Worth 10 Points
Due Jan 28 11:59pm : NO LATE SUBMISSION ALLOWED
Set up your class account/website
- In your CS-184 class account home directory, create a sub-directory named public_html. In
this directory place an HTML page named index.html. This web page should contain:
- Your name
- Your preferred email address
- A photo of yourself
- Any other information about yourself that you think is interesting and would like to share, such as:
- Your favorite OS (Mac, Windows, *nix, etc.)
- Your background in computer graphics/computer science
- Your goals in taking this course
A place where you will later add links to pages where you will post your assignment results
Feel free to customize this page and make it something that represents you. Keep it readable
and make sure we can easily locate the above required items.
- We will use this information to set up the class mailing list, so failure to post it on time will lead to your missing important announcements.
- Great, now you have a website! You can reach it at the URL http://inst.cs.berkeley.edu/~cs184-xx, where cs184-xx is your login. Try it out: you'll probably be greeted with a nasty "Permission Denied" page. To make sure that your website is accessible, so you may need to change some file permissions as follows:
- 'chmod -R 755 public_html' will make your website directory world readable.
- 'chmod 711 [your_home_directory]' will make your home directory world executable.
Alternatively, you can set file permissions with a GUI FTP client such as Filezilla.
- Finally, use 'submit as0' from a directory containing the following:
- A single text file called info.txt with your name, student ID number, and CS184 account username in that order, each on a separate line.
- A JPEG photo of yourself called photo.jpg.
We'll use this information to create a class roster page with links to everyone's webpages.
-
(Optional, but suggested): Create a file named .forward in your CS-184 class account home
directory that contains a single line of text. This line of text should be the e-mail address that
you check most regularly. This file will cause any e-mail sent to your cs184 account to forward
to whatever address you put in the file. (Check that the forwarding works by sending
your cs184 account e-mail and see if it shows up in your regular e-mail.)
