Overview
In this project we built a pinholecamera with pinhole of 4 different sizes: 0.1mm, 1mm, 3mm, 5mm.
Box design
We use a \(355 * 236 * 236\) \(mm^3\) soymilk maker box to make our pinhole camera box. We choose 236mm side to be the distance from pinhole to screen. Therefore, out desired focus length is 236mm. According to the formula pinhole size = \(1.9 * \sqrt{f * lambda}\), we calculated that our desired pinhole diameter is 0.68mm. First we covered all the inside face of this box with black paper. Then we covered the face used as screen with white paper to make sure it can reflect light properly. To prevent any possible light leakage, we covered all the edges and gaps of the box with duct tape. We cut a square hole and a circle shape in font of the box. The square hole is for different pinhole boards and the circle hole is for the camera. The camera we use is Sony ILCE-6000. Here is our box and our pinhole cards, note the 0.1mm is actually 1mm.:
