CS194-26: Final Project

FAKE MINIATURES

Joseph Jiang

Introduction

This project essentially plays an eye trick by applying a gaussian filter to the rest of the image expect for the depth of field (DOF). This makes the illusion that the object is extremely close to the lens that is taking the picture so our eyes interpret the objects in the images as tiny objects

We achieved this illusion by defining a focus line and creating a rectangular depth of focus from that line, a width that expands the entire horizontal part of the image and a height around 100-120 pixels with the focus line at the center. We then blur everything else around the depth of focus. The parts of the image further away from the depth of field are blurred more than the parts closer to the depth of the image. This creates the illusion of minitaturization! :)

FAKE MINIATURES

Introduction

The dolly focus was quite simple. I used a camera and fully focused the len at an object (water bottle/flower). Then, I stepped closer and kept the object at the same size by adjusting the zoom on the lens accordingly. you can also do this backwards (vice versa).
