CS 194-26 Final Project: Miniatures and Vertigo Shot

Miniatures Overview

In this project, we "miniaturized" images by applying the tilt shift effect, in which we select a region of the image to focus on, and blur the rest of the image. We accomplished this by first selecting a focus line in the image and creating a depth of field based off the line. Then, we increasingly blurred around the focus line. Here are examples from images I took in New York:

The Vertigo Shot

In this part, we attempt to duplicate the Vertigo Shot, also known as the dolly zoom and famously featured in Alfred Hitchcock's film Vertigo. To create this effect, we took multiple pictures of an object, each time taking a few steps away from the object, but zooming in to keep the object the same size. Here are our results.

Bells and Wistles: animated gifs!

It was challenging to keep the object the same size throughout all the images and also keep the camera steady! The gif's a bit shakey as a result.
