CS194-26 Final Project

Steve Shi

I chose to do the Vertigo Shots and Fake Miniatures projects.

Vertigo Shots

Vertigo shots, or dolly zoom, is a camera effect in which the camera moves toward a subject, while the field of view is adjusted to keep the subject the same size. This emphasizes the changes in the background, relative to the subject.

.

I achieved the dolly zoom effect by taking a series of 4 photos of a subject with an extensible background. Using a Sony A7III camera, starting at 18mm, I took gradually farther photos of my subject, while adjusting the camera's FOV such that the object remained in the same position.

Tilt Shift (Fake Miniatures)

Tilt shift is a technique that simulates an effect of increased depth of field in an image. This was accomplished by first generating a horizontal blurring mask, and then blurring (using Gaussian stack) a region of the image, thus creating a focus line in the unblurred areas. The result is an effect that makes the focused areas appear very close to the lens, making them look miniature.
