CS301 Class #6 Spring 2008
Unfortunately, Dan is not able to be here this week, and Jeremy is quite
sick at the moment. But one of the most important aspects of this class
is the support network it creates, so we feel it is important to still
hold class even if we can't be there. We've prepared the outline below
for class today.
Please elect one person to keep an eye on the clock and follow the
schedule below. We will do role playing in a future week.
Class outline
- Welcome
- 1140-1210 - Reading Discussion
- What messages / meta-points in Holt apply to college students?
- What is the difference between a good and poor thinker?
- Being nervous can be paralyzing. How does this play into test-anxiety? What can we do as TAs to combat this?
- What do you feel / how do you react when you don't know something?
- Do we need grades? What alternatives do we have to grading? Are these reasonable in a university setting?
- 1210-1215 : Break
- 1215-1300 : HowDidItGo(tm) PairShare
- Spend 10 minutes paired up (5 minutes one person talks, 5 minutes the other)
- After the 10 minutes, come back together as a group and discuss the major points of the week with everyone
- Some "starter" questions if you get stuck:
- Did you have a review session / midterm in your class?
- How did your class project go?
- Was there anything that you found difficult this week?
