  • Grading Complaint Deadline

All grades through MT2, PROJ2, and HW8 will be posted no later than 5pm this coming Monday (3/19). (Most of them are already posted.)

COMPLAINTS ABOUT MISSING OR INCORRECT GRADES MUST BE MADE NO LATER THAN 5PM FRIDAY 3/23 (just before spring break)!!!!! We will not accept any complaint, no matter how meritorious, made after that deadline.

To complain about a grade, send email to your TA, and also to your reader unless it's about a midterm. Don't send mail to me. :-) If your TA's email is cs61a-tX, then your reader is cs61a-rX.

The reason for the deadline is to avoid the situation I used to have at the end of every semester, when students a few points away from a grade step would suddenly discover a problem in the grading of an early homework, sometimes not making the complaint until after grades were filed and the staff dispersed. There will be further grade complaint deadlines for the remaining assignments of the semester; the last one will be the day of the final exam. No grading complaints will be accepted after that time no matter what!

Last semester I had several disappointed students who emailed me long after grades were filed saying things like "I thought that only applied to wrong grades, not missing grades" or the reverse. Nope, it applies to everything.

Note, this is the deadline for you to complain, not the deadline for us to resolve your complaint, although we'll try to resolve them quickly. You can complain to me about a grade only after you've discussed it with your TA and are still unsatisfied, although it's extremely rare for me to overrule a TA.

We're on ucb.class.cs61a (On-Campus Users) and ucb.class.cs61a (Off-Campus Users). Both newsgroups lead to the same place. INST just requires you to log in if you connect from outside of the Berkeley network.
