WHERE DID YOU GROW UP? WHAT WAS YOUR PATH TO CAL? I grew up in Southern California in the area between Los Angeles and Santa Barbara. I went to Newbury Park High School and then came to Cal in Fall 2013. HOW MUCH PROGRAMMING HAVE YOU DONE (& WHAT LANGUAGES)? Up until coming to UC Berkeley I had never taken a class in Computer Science so my initial C.S. education came primarily from books and a lot of Stack Overflow. In this way I “learned” C first 7 years ago, then Objective-C for iOS, then some web-dev (html, sql, php, css, javascript). Since coming to Cal I have also gained experience in C++, java, python, and scala. My favorite language is actually my first, C. WHAT ARE YOUR HOBBIES? I love spending time at the RSF (weight-lifting), running, hiking, most sports (used to play a lot of tennis), and water sports (wake-boarding, jet-skiing, skim-boarding, surfing etc. when available). I would really like to get into kitesurfing! WHAT ARE SOME OF YOUR TALENTS & SKILLS? I can make a decent water drop noise, do the worm backwards out of a handstand, and as of very recently I can do a pretty mediocre 1-handed cartwheel! HAVE YOU DONE ANYTHING REMARKABLE? HAS ANYTHING MEMORABLE HAPPENED TO YOU? I guess my moment of fame thus far in my life is the fact that I have gotten a total of ~280,000 downloads on iOS apps that I’ve developed (they were all made back before I even knew anyone interested in code in early High School and haven’t been maintained at all… so I guess I have some old slightly popular garbage with my name on it). WHAT COMMITMENTS WILL BE CONSUMING YOUR CYCLES THIS SEMESTER? In addition to TAing for CS61C I will be helping Donggyu Kim with his Computer Architecture research and will be trying to spend as much time outside as possible! :D
