WHERE DID YOU GROW UP? WHAT WAS YOUR PATH TO CAL? I was born in New Jersey, but grew up in Walnut Creek (20 minutes from Berkeley). From the first moment I set eyes on Berkeley campus, I fell in love with the place, and wanted to end up here. And now, here I am, working on my undergraduate degree in math and physics and a minor in CS, and loving every moment. HOW MUCH PROGRAMMING HAVE YOU DONE (& WHAT LANGUAGES)? My first programming experience was taking CS61A my freshman year here at Berkeley. During that class I became familiar with Python, Scheme, Unix and Logic. I then learned C and MIPS in CS61C, Java in CS61B, and Labview and Matlab in Physics 111. I am excited to be now actively coding for my physics studies and biophysics research! WHAT ARE YOUR HOBBIES? I love debate - both the formal competitive activity, and simply arguing about policy and philosophy. I love hiking, camping, skiing, swimming, biking, and exploring the outdoors. I'm not particularly strong or coordinated, however, and always find someone to carry my pack for me when camping :D Music is my other life. I play piano and violin and I sing. I have been in the UC Berkeley Symphony Orchestra almost my entire time at Cal, and also did a semester in the UC Berkeley Chorus. I have a small obsession with dancing (especially social, ballroom, and folk). No amount of homework will get between me and my dancing, and if you see me getting super giddy and excited during class on Wednesday, you can bet I'm getting high on dancing anticipation! On a typical vacation day, you might find me playing violin in my PJs, hiking with my dog in the hills, playing cards and chess with my grandparents, or playing chamber music and singing in four-part harmony with my siblings. WHAT ARE SOME OF YOUR TALENTS & SKILLS? Aside from music, I think my largest talent is walking into things: poles, open drawers, the sidewalk... And coming in as a close second is my mind-boggling ability to forget names. HAVE YOU DONE ANYTHING REMARKABLE? HAS ANYTHING MEMORABLE HAPPENED TO YOU? Believe it or not, I am clinically uncoordinated. And I think my biggest accomplishment to date was learning to ride a bike! WHAT COMMITMENTS WILL BE CONSUMING YOUR CYCLES THIS SEMESTER? I'm doing biophysics research in a lab here on campus, I teach private piano and violin lessons on Sundays, and I go dancing once or twice every week ;)
