I. Homework GSI of the week
For the homework, you need to:
- Meet with the professors to create the homework on the Tuesday before it is assigned.
- Send created homework to me in digital format by Wednesday night to be posted Thursday morning.
- Write up the solution to the homework and send to the GSIs AND the readers (chrisiow, rim) @berkeley.edu in digital format by Thursday night so that they may be reviewed and to help with discussion and office hours.
- Monitor the newsgroups for problems with the homework and answer questions when posed.
II. Lab GSI of the week
For this job, you need to:
- Do the entire lab ahead of time, and present your results at the weekly GSI meeting. In particular, we want to know:
- Were all of the parts available? If not, coordinate with lab support to obtain the needed parts.
- Did everything work? If everything did not work, what can be done to fix it?
- What problems might students encounter doing the lab?
- Create a lab solution, and e-mail to everyone by Friday night. Note that old lab solutions ARE available. E-mail me for details.
- Create a grading rubric. That just means, a detailed list of how to grade the lab. Email it to everyone by Friday night.
- Grade the labs, and send the grades to me.
- Monitor the newsgroups for problems with the prelab and answer questions when posed.
III. Discussion Section GSI
In discussion section, you are supposed to be aware of what is going on in lecture and what is on the homework. Please ensure that you have:
- Read the lecture slides (available on the website).
- Read the homework and understood the solutions.
IV. Lab GSI
You are expected to:
- Be able to perform the lab. Do the lab ahead of time if necessary.
- Be familiar with the common mistakes that students may encounter, as explained in the weekly meeting.
- Walk around during lab and make sure nobody is stuck or frustrated.
- Walk around during lab and ask pointed questions to ensure that students are understanding the material.
V. Office Hours
You are expected to hold one weekly office hour at a time when you are not running lab and while class is not being held. Office hours are held in the lab (140 Cory). You are supposed to be aware of what is going on in lecture and what is on the homework. Please ensure that you have:
- Read the lecture slides (available on the website).
- Read the homework and understood the solutions.
- Arrive to your office hours on time.
- Do not leave your office hours early.
- Notify me ASAP if you need to reschedule your office hours.
VI. Staff Meetings
You are expected to attend staff meetings unless you have a lab scheduled for that time. If you cannot make a meeting, please make sure you stay up to date with what is going on in the course.
VII. Exams
Exams need proctors and graders. These duties will be assigned at the meeting before each exam.
