Sixth Week - February 20-23

The Midterm Examination will cover material through small-signal models and gain in HS 5.31-5.33 and 8.3 but will not include capacitors in the small-signal models HS 4.5.4-4.5.5. The TA's have all been encouraged to coach you and second guess the instructor as to what might be on the exam as they have not seen the exam. Several on-line examples of examinations are available. Be sure to look at the simple MOS amplifier questions on the 2nd midterm in Fall 99 and Fall 00 as this semester we have emphasized this material already and we have reduced the material on semiconductor physics somewhat.

Discussion Sections:

NMOS and PMOS devices in circuits similar to Homework #5.Assistance with reviewing and preparing for the midterm exam.

Laboratories:

No Experiment This week: See above for special hours on Thursday in case you need assistance preparing for the midterm exam.

Homework:

The homework is being graded on a scale of 0-10 and you must achieve an 8 or better in the initial grading to have mastered the homework on schedule. Questions about grading should be emailed to kobe@uclink4.berkeley.edu

2/19 Holiday
2/21 Lecture 15 - Capacitance in NMOS and PMOS devices. SPICE models and parameters from the layout. Overview of sinusoids and their representation as phasors. use of phasors to simplify diffrentiation and integration of sinusoids. Example use in the analysis of an RC circuit.

Reading - S&H 4.5.4, 4.5.5, Lab Manual 189-213

Homework 6 will be distributed.
Homework set #5 is due at start of class on Wednesday February 21.

2/23 Midterm exam 10:10-10:53.
Bring one sheet (two sided) of hand written notes. Be sure to include device equations (current-voltage, threshold, small signal models, etc.) and semiconductor physical equations (depletion depth, potential, electric field, charge, carrier concentrations, etc.). An example was circulated in class for the quiz on Friday, February 16th. No photo copies permitted.
