Homework Guidlines

As in any graduate level course, part of the goal is to provide training on independent thinking. Due to resource limitations we do not have a research project in this class, but some of the problem sets may require research efforts in problem solving.

When a problem covers a subject that does not look familiar, you are encouraged to first search for information in course materials, literature, and on the web. Feel free to state your own assumptions if you feel there is ambiguity in the problem assignment. Of course, you are always welcome to contact the course consultant for help.

Solutions

Solutions will be emailed to the students as soon as the homework submission is received.

Homework submission

Homeworks and reading assignments should be submitted in electronic form (word or pdf) via email to Isabel Blanco (miblanco@berkeley.edu), before the end of the day (Pacific Time) of the due date. If there is difficulty with electronic submission, you may notify the course consultant, and mail or fax the assignment to the CalVIEW NTU office.

Also, the CalVIEW office asks that you put your name, the course number (CS 252 in our case), and the homework number on anything you email or turn into the office via fax or mail. They receive a lot of correspondence from students and it can be difficult for them to decipher homework when there is no name, homework number, or class name on the document. Also, please make a copy of everything you send, in case work disappears en route.

Late work

All homework is due on the dates specified on the syllabus. A late assignment will lose 20% of the grade for each day it was submitted after the due date. However it is understandable that most NTU engineers/students are trying to balance this class with unpredictable work demands. In occasions when such circumstances occur, please contact the course consultant ahead of time to find out if it is possible to get extensions. Note that in all cases, you must request an extension BEFORE the due date.

Cheating

This should go without saying, but for the record: it is essential that you do your own work. Everyone is welcome to consult with others to discuss the problems, but you must do your own assignments. The one area in which the CalView NTU office is NOT flexible is in terms of the necessary integrity.
