• How new users are informed of the rules:
  1. account form that new users must read:   named accounts,   class accounts

• Computer Use Policies:
  As a condition of use, users of EECS Instructional computers and labs agree to abide by the rules stated in these documents:
  1. Campuswide Policies and Procedures, including:
     Code of Student Conduct, Sexual Harassment Policy, Personal Use of University Property
  2. Campus IT policies, including:
     UCB Computer Use Policy, UCB Electronic Mail Policy, Netiquette and Ethics
     
  3. EECS Departmental Policies & Procedures
     
  4. EECS Instructional Rules of Conduct, including Disciplinary Procedures
     
  5. rules posted in EECS instructional [ workstation ] [ electronics & instrumentation ] labs
     
  6. Equipment Loan Policy
     
  7. Policies for ISG/ESG Staff
     

• Technical Restrictions on Instructional Computers:
  • Disk space quotas (up to 100 MB on each account)
    
  • Printer paper quotas (50 pages per course credit)
    
  • "set uid" programs are not allowed in home directories
    
  • insecure .rhosts and file permissions are automatically corrected
    
  • "ftp", "rlogin" and "telnet" are blocked on Instructional systems (use "ssh")
    
  • email "reply to" fields must be legit Instructional email address
    
  • class news groups can only be read from *.berkeley.edu computers
    
  • jobs left running after you logout are killed automatically
  • .forward won't work if it or your home directory is group writable
  • CGI programs won't work if directories above it are group writable
